The National Sculpture Museum is one of the must-visit places in Valladolid. This magnificent museum, property of the Culture Ministry of Spain, collects European and national sculptures, paintings, and passings from the 13th to the 19th century.
The National Sculpture Museum acquired its name in 1933, and several years later, in 2008, it changed to Saint Gregory School National Museum. It was not until 2011 that the Council of Ministers retrieved the title that it has nowadays.

The main ubication of this museum is the Saint Gregory School, a 15th century building whose façade is one of the most impressive ones in Valladolid. In like manner, the National Museum is additionally formed by the Villena Palace and the Palace of the Count of Gondomar, also known as “La Casa del Sol” (“Sun’s House”).

In its interior, the museum has a collection of paintings and more than 3,000 sculptures that constitute one of the greatest assemblages in Europe, in which the carvings, made of polychrome wood and catalogued by some experts as the best ones in the continent, are specially emphasised. Some of its creators are celebrated masters of this genre. Some of its instances are: Alonso Berruguete, Pedro de Mena, Gregorio Fernández, or Pompeo Leoni.
