Candeleda is a village of medieval origin, situated in the Tiétar Valley, in the province of Ávila. Currently, it has 5,002 inhabitants but, this Ávila’s southern small village has visitors that, fascinated by its beauty, tour its streets every day.
Its studding houses, characteristic of Tiétar Valley and of the Extremaduran river bank, lure the visitor during the journey through the old town. The area still preserves its traditional architecture. In fact, one of the best preserved studding houses, built in 1862 and known as Casa de las Flores (Flowers’ House), can be found on the village’s square. It constitutes a museum inside and out, since on its interior there is the Tin Toys’ Museum, a very special place that has the quality of moving more than one to their childhood.
Around Candeleda, there is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Chilla which counts with several legends regarding its origin. But, undoubtedly, the emplacement where this unique village is placed, Tiétar riverside, makes of Candeleda a special and magic destine, due to its scenery, rivers, canyons, groves, and wildlife.
