Mogarraz is a village located in Sierra de Francia, in the province of Salamanca. This village is a Historic-Artistic Grouping, some medieval traditional occupations are still preserved here, and it is one of the few Jewries conversed to Christianism. But, without a doubt, the most peculiar characteristic of this small locality are the countenances of the inhabitants that decorate the façade of the houses they inhabited.

The official history of this village starts in the 12th century, when it was repopulated by the French. Nowadays, Mogarraz can be proud of being one of the most beautiful municipalities at the Sierra and preserving a great historic and cultural heritage.

The streets are a sample of the mountains’ populations and it portrays its own architecture from the 17th century, since the houses are composed of three floors and built with studs of stone and wood. The fountains, small squares, narrow streets, and detailed scenes fill the village with charm and beauty.

But, with certainty, the most outstanding characteristic is the portray gallery that decorate the houses. Up to 388 portrays of the former inhabitants of the dwellings, who did not emigrate in the 1960s, are painted in the façades.
