Frómista or the so-called “Villa del Milagro” (Miracle Villa) has made that this village does not remain unnoticed. It represents a mandatory visit to know its great monumental heritage, watered by a melting pot of religions and people who have been here. With the Camino de Santiago or the Way of Saint James passing through it, this place is located in Tierra de Campos, in the province of Palencia. This villa was settled in the 10th century even though there are previous settlements since it was a transit point of the Roman road.
The most famous temple of Frómista was built in 1606 when, ordered by Queen Doña Mayor de Castilla, who belonged to Navarra’s royal lineage, received the villa as estate and raised a monastery in this locality. This monastery would be known as San Martín de Tours and, a century later, it would be managed by the order of Benedictine monks.
Santa María del Castillo and the church of San Pedro are two other inherent examples of the villa of Frómista that should not be ignored by those visitors willing to observe the vivid history from the Middle Ages to our present days.
The Camino de Santiago is one of the great incentives for touring through this villa. Departing from Roncesvalles (a municipality located in Navarra), Frómista is a special place if you want to enjoy the pilgrim atmosphere. Due to the current prime of the pilgrimage route, Frómista counts with three large hostels and boarding houses, which are aimed at the rest of the wayfarers. In addition to that, there are diverse restaurants where the visitor can enjoy the savour of the delicious Castilian gastronomy.

Frómista is famous due to its enclave in the Camino de Santiago
