Campo Grande constitutes Valladolid’s big lung and a recreation place for the city’s inhabitants, as well as a source of inspiration for the writer Miguel Delibes. It is a park of 11.5 hectares approximately, located in the center of the capital of Castilla-Leon.
Even though its current name is Campo Grande (“Large Field”), it was formerly called Campo de la Verdad (“Truth’s Field”), and years later, Campo de Marte (“Mars’ Field”). Its origin dates back from 1787.

Nowadays, this park represents a genuine botanic garden because of its numerous tree species, in which the tree of heaven, the Chinese fan palm, and the cedar of Lebanon outstand. Its entire area also counts with a diverse collection of animals such as peacocks, pheasants, doves, squirrels, and numerous birds.

Strolling through its interior, we can find the “barquero”, or boatman, in the pond and several sculptures such as «The Photographer» work, or busts of the late Major of the city, Miguel Íscar; the playwright and poet Leopoldo Cano, the writer Rosa Chacel, or the poet Núñez de Arce.
