In the Castilian city of Valladolid, reaching to Almenara de Adaja y Puras’ term, we can find a peculiar a Roman site, specifically a magnificent villa whose mosaics illustrate the most aristocratic style of the classic sphere. However, the most significant thing is not the aforementioned by itself but the complementary space built in 2003 that recreates, in a very authentic way, a Roman country house similar to the remains found in the same site. Just by crossing through the main gate, this unique place leads the visitor to a return to the Roman Empire and its recreation as «if you have just been transferred to a film set on that time».

The tourists visiting this place are thousands since it is a relevant touristic point of Castile-León. Just by entering, they find with the chariot races, soldiers on parade, or dramatizations of the villa’s owners in the purest Axterix and Obelix comics’ style. All these recreations are executed in this complementary space that helps the visitor in the understanding of how was the lifestyle of the family who built this town around the 3rd century A.D. and its analogous one back in the 4th century A.D.

This mosaic is one of the most representative works in Almenara-Puras.
This site, declared Cultural Interest Asset in 1994, illustrates successfully the 1,800m2 of mosaics and remains of this unique villa. The most specialised Roman Empire experts regarding can visit the Museo de la Villa, or The Villa’s Museum, and observe the entirety of this material culture and other reproductions found in the long time of discovery and excavation. This Museum is located in the covering of the Villa that maintains its preservation.

But there is even more. For the youngest ones, there is a thematic playground surrounded by the most interesting history that should not be missed during a visit with the whole family.
