Salamanca is a Spanish municipality and city, capital of the homonymy province, and located in the autonomous community of Castile-León. It is located in the region of the Campo de Salamanca, in the middle of the Northern plateau, in the North-west of the Iberian Peninsula.

It is possible to get to Salamanca by car from most of the places of the Peninsula thanks to the Spanish network of highways and roads passing through the capital of Salamanca. There are secondary roads in case of intending to get to Salamanca from the surrounding villages or from the periphery.

From Zamora, there is the possibility of taking the motorway A-66 coming directly to Salamanca; it is 75 km until reaching the downtown of the city. On the other hand, there is also the option of going through the N-630, it is a distance of 67 km, but this one has more traffic.
From Valladolid, there is the option of going through the A-62 which is 120 km from the capital of Castile-León.
If your starting point is Madrid, you have to take the AP-6, a turnpike with destination La Coruña to Ávila – Villacastín (Segovia). There you have to take the A-50, a highway that passes through Ávila with direction to Salamanca.
To get to Salamanca from the Peninsula’s South, you have to take the A-66, also known as the “Ruta de la Plata” (Silver’s Route) that comes from Cáceres.
Salamanca’s Bus Station is located in the Avenue Filiberto Villalobos 71; about 15 minutes walking from the Plaza Mayor. Salamanca is very well communicated via bus with most of the provincial capitals of Spain, with a multitude of villages and cities, especially with Madrid, situated 200 km from Salamanca.

If Madrid is the departing place, every hour there are buses that have Salamanca as destination. There is also a direct bus from terminals 1 and 4 of the Airport Adolfo Suárez.

Salamanca’s Train Station is located in El Paseo de la Estación 122, about 15-20 minutes walking from Plaza Mayor. It is open 24 hours and has a small shopping centre in its interior.

It is not only possible to get to Salamanca directly from Spanish cities like Valladolid, Vitoria, and Madrid; but also from other countries’ places such as Coimbra, Lisbon, and Fatima (Portugal) or Hendaya (France). To check schedules and connections, you can do it on Renfe’s website.
Salamanca has a small airport in the municipality of Matacán, on the highway to Madrid. At the present time, this airport hosts not commercial flights. Only charter flights are available. The nearest airports to Salamanca are the ones of Valladolid (120 km of distance) and Madrid (200 km).
